This Saturday the 4th marks the very important World Cancer Day and here at Recognised we want to stand with every person who has been affected by cancer. It is a day to unite people, to raise awareness and show recognition to such an important cause, and one very close to our hearts.
Cancer impacts nearly all of us in some way or another, whether that be losing someone, or walking alongside a close one, supporting through the ups and downs of each individual journey. Amidst the uncertainty cancer brings, one thing we are certain of is our need for each other to get through. This year’s campaign theme is focused on uniting voices because ‘we know that together we can achieve almost anything.’
So here at Recognised, today on World Cancer Day, we want to use our voice to shine light on our wonderful charity partners. We have had the privilege of partnering with Maggies and Look Good Feel Better. Whenever you buy an Alphabet Popon to recognise one you love, 100% of the profits are donated to support the powerful work of these two leading cancer support charities.
So who was Maggie? Motivated by her own experience of cancer and horrible lifeless waiting rooms, Maggie Keswick Jencks decided there was a need for a new type of support; ‘a center that could make the experience of cancer more manageable for everyone.’
She wanted to create a way for people to change the way they live with cancer and to bring people together to ‘find comfort in the experiences of others.’ This resulted in the creation of the beautiful Cancer care centers that have come to be known as Maggies. Built on the grounds of specialist NHS hospitals, Maggie's 23 centers are warm and welcoming places with expert staff to help people live well with cancer. They are places to find practical advice about benefits and eating well, places where qualified experts provide emotional support, places to meet other people, places where you can simply sit quietly with a cup of tea. They understand the importance of architecture and design on your physical and emotional health, which is why their centres are peaceful, calming places to be. Everyone is welcome, you don’t need an appointment, just come in at any time and their support is free.
Look Good Feel Better is an independent national cancer support charity providing a unique service that helps boost the confidence and self-esteem of women, men and young adults undergoing treatment for any type of cancer.
The workshops are led by trained volunteers including skincare and make-up artists and local barbers or groomers for men’s groups. The workshops teach useful skills to help manage the side-effects of cancer treatment, and the best thing about them; every single one offers an invaluable opportunity to meet others going through the same situation.
ALPHABET POPONS
Through the support of our wonderful customers we have been able to give thousands to these two standout Charities. Each initial bought not only funds their work, but recognises an individual affected by cancer; every one worn represents a personal story.
So today at Recognised we want to say a special thank you to Maggie's and Look Good Feel Better, for all the amazing work they have done to make space for each individual on their journey with cancer.
You too can show some extra love today: Be that through checking in on those who have lost loved ones, doing an act of kindness for someone fighting cancer, or supporting the work of these charities by buying an Alphabet Popon. Lets learn how to stand alongside those in recognition of what they are going through. Together we are better.
