Our Recognised mirrors are the first of many new meaningful and beautiful gifts created to help you express love and compassion to those around you. They have truly been a labour of love and we’re so pleased we’ve been able to bring them to you just in time for Christmas. We think they are the perfect stocking filler to recognise loved ones this festive season. 

The idea behind these mirrors started last year, when the Recognised team met on a Wednesday morning in October to brainstorm ideas to create meaningful in-store experiences for John Lewis customers during our UK Christmas pop-up tour. After a great session of creative thinking and dreaming, the Recognised mirror was born - a mirror on a gorgeous golden stand, with small pink cards that would allow customers to leave a message of recognition for someone else, and also take a hopeful message for themselves. Each card was organised around one of our causes; mental health, motherhood, ending modern slavery, solidarity and cancer support, with the beginning of the phrase on each card written by our team for customers to complete.

It was incredibly moving to see so many pop-up customers interact with the mirror in each John Lewis store around the country. So many of you wrote the most meaningful messages that really resonated with others, especially when the COVID pandemic was affecting so many of us in different ways.

To those made to feel less-than because of the colour of their skin… Never doubt how valuable you are. 

To the one afraid to speak out… we need your voice!

That is exactly right - we are all beautiful. Everyone deserves to feel valued, and everyone needs to know that they shine beautifully no matter how they may be feeling, throughout both great and difficult times in our lives. And this is why we created our new Recognised mirrors. Ethically handcrafted in antique brass and finished with an encouraging message, our mirrors are a daily reminder of just how valuable we are.
